Fort Pulaski, National Monument on Tybee with My Beach House Rentals

Fort Pulaski is a wonderful side trip twenty minutes out of Savannah –  and one of it’s best kept secrets. The fort took 18 years to build and was finished in 1829. Used by Rebs and Feds both during the Civil War. You can see Hilton Head Island from the top of the Fort. It’s like a castle with a huge moat–complete with alligators, a portcullis and a drawbridge. It has barracks, cannons…you gotta see this!!!!!!!
The rangers are very friendly and informative.
Recently, there was a live five foot gator next to the visitors center that was viewed from the platform.
