Tybee Island Pirate Fest began in 2005 with a few locals searching for an event to highlight the unique personality of the island. Following an enormous number of hours, blood, sweat, and tears the first Pirate Fest took to the streets of Tybee. The first year far surpassed the expectations of its organizers, a non-profit called TybeeFest. With the support of many dedicated volunteers, The City of Tybee Island, and local businesses, the event has grown each year. Pirate enthusiasts travel from across the country to visit our charming island as it transforms into pirate village every Columbus Day weekend.
This year, the Tybee Island Tourism Council takes the helm and promises to nurture the spectacular event founded by the island’s locals. Our Pirate Fest blankets the downtown area to highlight the local shops and restaurants while showcasing our beautiful beach and pier. Visitors are invited to escape the ordinary, if only for a weekend.

While the City of Savannah recently issued an emergency order mandating that masks be worn in public, NO such emergency order is in effect on Tybee Island. The city does not require masks be worn, but individual businesses on Tybee may require a mask to enter their buildings.
Our beaches are open at this time. Coolers, chairs and umbrellas are permitted. We encourage everyone to follow recommended guidelines for safety and social distancing while visiting our beaches, businesses and city facilities.
Tybee beach misses you. Reservations available beginning May 1. Special discounts, too.
